This is for my TOEFL students, and everyone else interested in the workings of the brain.
I want you to watch, read and listen to an amazing lecture by Jill Taylor about the brain. Jill had a stroke and was able to experience exactly what a stroke victim would experience - from the inside out, as she says.
If your internet connection is slow you can download it, and watch it later. While you're watching take notes on her talk, looking for the topic, main idea, and any subtopics or important details she introduces.
We can then talk about it in class, or you can post a comment below.
You can also look at the rest of the TED site and choose something you are interested in and do the same.
Here is the link to the video.
And here is the transcript.

Dear Ajaan Paul
ReplyDeleteI think the topic of this lecture is stroke.
And the main idea is the symptom of stroke which occurred in the right hemisphere brain.
I think this lecture is very interesting because Jill try to describe the symptom of strock in easy way.
From this lecture, I infer that Jill tried to tell her experience while she was treated.
I think she realized something that important for human. That is the perception of the self which like many eastern philosophy (i.e. Buddhism, Hindu, Zen).
We can identify ourselves but at the same time we can't separate ourselves from other people too.
I am not sure about my answer, but I am sure that this lecture is very good. :)
thanks,
A
Dear Ajaan Paul (again)
ReplyDeleteI just reviewed my answer and found something mistake.
the main idea is the symptom of stroke occurred in the left hemisphere brain not right hemisphere.(May be my brain felt nervously while I typed the answer in English!)
